Penny Tile Template jig Real US currency Mosaic Pattern 7.25×7.25”
Penny Tile Template jig Real US currency Mosaic Pattern 7.25×7.25”. This listing is for two items. 1- one 7.25″ by 7.25' penny tile template / jig. (80 pennies) 2- one cardboard template used to precut mesh sheets. I made 12×12″ penny tile mosaic tiles years ago (remember this listing is for 7.25″x7.25″) using a very expensive plexiglass template / jig. (more than double this price) I will explain to you why I like this version better (besides the price) and how you can get good results. This will help you get professional looking results, but it does take time. The process is fairly simple though. I'll start with what you get and then explain why this version is better than the one I bought years ago. What you get. This penny tile template is 7.25×7.25 inches and holds 80 US pennies. 1.) One plastic penny tile template (jig) it makes tiles that are 7.25 inches by around 7.25 inches. Doing the math for you – three completed tiles equals just over 1 square foot. 2.) Thick cardboard template to precut mosaic tile mesh. It's much easier to CUT the mesh first then place the pennies versus laying the pennies and cutting around them. This is a real time saver. If you are making a lot of sheets it might be better to use this cardboard template to make another one as backup or make one out of wood. THE DIFFERENCE Years ago – I purchased a plexiglass template to make my own penny tiles. It worked, but a few things I dreaded were. 1 – THE SIZE – while I ended up with a 12″x12' tile. I thought it would be nice, they became very heavy and sort of a pain to work with. The pennies would whip around a lot and a few would always fall off. This one is better in my opinion because it is smaller. Less weight and less whipping around. 2. – THE THICKNESS – it was too thick. When you poured pennies onto it and moved them into their proper location you would have multiple pennies in each slot. It was a pain to remove them. This one is WAY better because it is just a tad thinner than a penny. So you can dump pennies on and brush off the access with your hand. HUGE time saver. THE PROCESS – This is the process I used to make them. Installation is on you there are how to videos online it's just impossible to cover how to install them because installation will be different for every application. 1. Use mosaic mesh (sold online I like the sticky kind, if you don't use the sticky kind you'll have to glue each penny down and that will take a lifetime) Take the cardboard template and cut out a piece of mesh. Tip: Place a piece of cardboard under the mesh. One piece per piece of tile made. 2. Place the penny tile template over the mesh and dump pennies onto it. You'll find out what works best for you. I dumped them in the center and slid them around working from one corner to the other corner. 3. BEFORE YOU lift using your hand press down pennies to make sure they have a chance to stick to the mat. Then lift off template. 4. Move tile off to the side, place an object on it to press pennies down again. Like a book giving the sticky mesh (sold separately) time to adhere to the pennies. 5. That tile is done, now you can move onto your next piece. Tip – the sticky mesh back (sold separately) is sticky but a few pennies could shift on you especially around the edges so be careful. COST SAVINGS – Sellers sell completed 12″x 12″ for around $18.50 per piece ($18.50 a square foot) with this template you can make a square foot for around $4.50 a square foot ($1.75 for mesh (sold separately) and $2.40 in pennies (80 cents per template) So you would save $14.00 a square foot by making them yourself using this template. If you make more than 3 square foot this template pays for itself. This project anyway you do it takes a lot of time. This will take out some of the frustration of trying to make everything even. Template is made of PLA plastic and is flexible, just don't try to fold it in half. I don't know you would do that, but if you do it will snap. Do not store in extremely hot or cold temperatures or it could warp. If you keep it in the shipping box and in a garage you'll be fine.
