They can range in appearance from clear shades that allow visibility of subsequent layers, to pigmented coats that can be matched to an infinite array of colors. They also protect the parts from weathering, moisture and chemical exposure. The non-wax gelcoat will remain sticky untill the wax is added. The reason to use a non-wax is for putting on multiple coats without having to sand in between coats. The last coat of gelcoat needs to have the wax in it. This Gelcoat is top of the line. It is mixed with MEKP catalyst to harden. It is not recommended to fiberglass below 65 degrees. Please Note: This pint of Gelcoat has no Wax added. Wax needs to be added to Gelcoat so that it will harden without tackiness. The wax rises to the surface and blocks out the air. If you are using more than one coat, it is recommended to put the first coat(s) on without wax (you will not have to sand between coats)and the last coat on with wax. If you use Gelcoat with wax and need to add another coat, you will have to sand the wax off before adding the next coat. Minwax Water Based, Oil-Modified Polyurethane Protective Wood Finish, Clear Satin, Quart Product Description Keep interior wood projects looking beautiful with Minwax Oil-Modified Polyurethane Wood Finish. The water-based clear top coat combines superior durability with the beauty of traditional polyurethane. It adds long-lasting beauty and protection to interior wood surfaces including woodwork, furniture, doors, cabinets and floors. Plus, you can get more done with this protective poly coating. It’s an ultra fast-drying clear coat that allows for quick recoats in 2 hours, and because it’s water-based, it has a low odor and easy cleanup with warm water. It can be used on both finished and unfinished wood projects, and is available in a variety of sheens. Application Directions: 1. Surface must be dry and free of old finishes in poor condition, paint, wax, grease, polish, dirt or other foreign matter. 2. Sand to obtain a smooth, uniform surface. Do not use steel wool. Remove all sanding dust. Thoroughly wipe clean with a damp cloth. Allow to dry completely. 3. If desired, apply Minwax stain to unfinished wood surfaces. Follow directions for application and dry times. Wait 8 hours after staining, before applying Oil-Modified Polyurethane. 4. Stir Oil-Modified Polyurethane before and during use to eliminate settling on the bottom of the can. Stir to rotate the product from the bottom to the top of the can. NEVER SHAKE. 5. Apply a THIN coat of Oil-Modified Polyurethane using a high quality synthetic bristle or foam brush. 6. Let dry 2 hours. Then lightly sand entire surface with fine sandpaper (220 grit) to ensure an even finish and proper adhesion. Remove all dust. 7. Apply a second coat. Oil-Modified Polyurethane requires a third coat; repeat step 6 before application. 8. After final coat, allow 24 hours before light use.
